Reno, Nevada is the "Biggest Little City" around and it pulls out all the stops when it comes to summertime events. There is plenty for all ages and tastes whether you are willing to brave the summer heat or prefer to get in from the sun.
The summer kicks off with some wet fun. The Reno River Festival began in 2004 to celebrate the re-configuration of the Truckee River into a whitewater kayak course. It is one of the most popular festivals of its kind in the United States. There is plenty of seating along the course which included class 2 and class 3 rapids.
The Reno Rodeo is one of the largest sanctioned rodeos of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. The nine day event includes bulls, broncs, calf roping, barrel racing and even a cattle drive.
If running is your sport of choice then the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure may be the perfect fit. Just gather up 11 of your best running pals and sign up for this 178 mile course. The run starts in Downtown Reno and the travels around the Truckee River then through the Sierra Nevada mountains and finally along the shores of Lake Tahoe. You finish up the run through the Northern Nevada high desert before ending up back in Reno.
Hot August Nights will be the perfect blast from the past to beat off the heat of summer. The event offers every one a chance to relive (or experience for the first time) the 50's and the 60's. The cars are mint and the music is rocking. Many of the events available during the 10 days are free.
Reno has plenty to offer the whole family during the dog days of summer. Kick back along the river or kick up your hills for some great music. What ever you love you are sure to find a piece of it in Reno.
